Salton Sea Beach

Before Joshua Tree National Park....

We managed to pass through the Salton Sea Beach hoping to witness thousands of Tilapia by the shoreline, but instead, we were greeted by remnants of the annual fish die-off with millions of rotting Tilapia all over the place! It was a depressing scene, particularly since I was not fully aware of the reasons of such a depressing occurrence. I learned that the fish die-off is considered a natural process of the lake's aquatic inhabitants, so there really isn't anything to fret about, you know? it is best coined as nature's circle-of-life, so to speak! No biggie. The carnage before me will eventually be replaced by lively spawning tilapias sometime soon!

Sad visuals, right? but that's really nothing compared to witness at least 8 million tilapia die-off in one day! Yep folks, in ONE DAY! I am hoping that 2012's spawning will return twice as much this year! Hopefully soon because it would be more fitting to see more happy tourists and school of healthy, thriving fish populating this stretch of highly saline body of water!

...and that, folks, will momentarily conclude the Salton Sea visit...until we meet again...
